Although made of plastic (I think iTouch is metal) it is far from flimsy but of course quite light and feels really nice in the hand. The other reason I chose this player was because it would fit into a small bag/pocket without adding yet another weighty toy to those I already lug around and it certainly is a very cool looking piece of kit. I am not up to speed with all of this, so still getting to grips with the descriptions but a younger person will probably be better informed. There are thirty preset options tailored to what you want to listen to. However, the earphones provided are probably rubbish, so I am researching the best phones that will make the most of the player's capabilities - looking at Sennheiser at the moment. I thought the volume limit on the unit may be a problem initially but I didn't have the jack pushed in far enough. I am hoping it will help me regain some enjoyment of music, as I have a hearing impairment. The sound quality is the most applauded feature of this player. The home menu is straightforward and a combination of buttons and on-screen options makes navigation a simple affair, although I haven't ever used the iTouch, the main competitor of the Cowon, so cannot compare. My daughter's boyfriend however navigated through the menu immediately (I am several decades older). Some have said the touch screen takes getting used to but you soon get the hang of it - a double touch is needed sometimes, that's all. There is a facility for recording live radio and a voice recorder too, I think.

Of course, you cannot connect a USB memory stick and download from that (I can't do that on my PDA either). There is a Podcast facility and I have downloaded a couple of radio programmes to the player. Some have critised the non-standard USB connector but I don't see this as a problem, as the lead from the player plugs via a standard USB to a computer, from where files can be copied into the player's folder. Pictures automatically switch from portrait to landscape as you turn the unit. I have copied folders of photos, via my laptop, to it and it was great being able to pass the player around a group of friends, who were also impressed with the quality. Videos could be watched fairly comfortably. The picture quality is awesome for a unit of this size. I immediately upgraded my player using the firmware download provided on the Cowon website. My version only has FM radio but I couldn't wait! It is worth bearing in mind a 36GB with DAB radio is planned.

It cost £199 from Advanced MP3 Players but I used a code provided on this site that enabled a £20 discount.

I have had a Cowon S9 media player for around a week now, so still finding my way around it.
